Savannah River Mission Completion Raises the Bar on United Way Campaign Contributions

AIKEN, S.C. (December 12, 2024) — Savannah River Mission Completion (SRMC) employees have completed another successful United Way fundraising campaign by raising a total of $309,326 for local support agencies.

SRMC is the Department of Energy’s liquid waste contractor at the Savannah River Site (SRS) near Aiken, S.C. This year’s fundraising total is the largest recorded so far by the company.

The 2024 SRMC Employee United Way Campaign began in earnest in September with a payroll deduction plan for workers, but employees actively planned and participated in numerous other money-raising efforts earlier in the year. Employees held sporting events, such as a softball tournament and two golf tournaments, and served as “celebrity waiters” at a local restaurant to encourage patrons to join SRMC’s campaign by contributing to the fundraising total.

SRMC President and Program Manager Dave Olson expressed his pride for the efforts of his team.

“The United Way supports numerous important projects across this area that benefit many people,” Olson said. “But one of the best ways the organization can help people is through our personal contributions. I’m so pleased that our team members give of their time, talents, and treasure to raise funds. Their efforts make a difference for so many people.”

The SRMC fundraising campaign assists United Way agencies in Aiken, Barnwell/Allendale, Edgefield, Bamberg/Colleton/Hampton, Anderson, McDuffie, and Screven Counties. Also, a portion of the funds is provided to the United Way of the CSRA and Midlands of South Carolina.

SRMC United Way Campaign Chairman Paul E. Cundey IV said the annual campaign plays a big part in helping people in communities surrounding SRS.

“These United Way organizations provide health and human services to families in need,” Cundey said. “In fact, some of the families you know could be receiving services from United Way, including education, crisis assistance, financial stability, and help to live healthier lives.”

Fundraising activities included two golf tournaments, a softball tournament, and waiting tables at a local restaurant. They also gave of their time to support local United Way agencies, including volunteering at the Salvation Army Center of Hope in Augusta, Georgia, where they sorted and reorganized the clothing and donation room, as well as helped stock the food and beverage pantry.

SRMC comprises parent company BWX Technologies, Inc. with partners Amentum and Fluor. Its team brings the capabilities necessary to accelerate cleanup at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Savannah River Site through safe nuclear operations, optimized and integrated mission execution, and strong corporate governance.
