Savannah River Mission Completion Donates $5,000 to University of South Carolina Aiken for Veterans and Military Students

AIKEN, S.C. (September 25, 2024) - Savannah River Mission Completion (SRMC), the liquid waste contractor at the Savannah River Site, donated $5,000 to the University of South Carolina Aiken (USCA) to assist veterans transitioning from the military to college and into the civilian workforce.

SRMC and USCA established its alliance that creates a potential employment pipeline through the University’s Office of Veteran and Military Student Success (VMSS) by providing an internship or employment for these students.

The donation will be used to host SRMC and VMSS networking and career guidance sessions, advertising, and the overall mission of the VMSS Center.

The program has a proven track record, and SRMC is looking forward to helping these students, according to SRMC Talent Acquisition Projects and Programs Lead Allison Brinkley.

“SRMC and USCA want to generate more student interest in career opportunities with SRMC through VMSS,” Brinkley said. “Internships could not only lead to meaningful jobs at SRMC, but the students will also benefit from mentoring provided by world class professionals.”

USCA and SRMC will host future networking events to bring together veterans and military students and SRMC management to discuss potential internships, USCA Student Academic Success Director Robert A. Murphy said.

“USCA has established itself as one of the top universities in the country for veteran and military students,” said Murphy, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran. “We have experienced this success because we have dedicated staff and community partners like SRMC that want what is best for our students, and we all win every time a student earns a full-time job through this collective effort.”

SRMC comprises parent company BWX Technologies, Inc. with partners Amentum and Fluor. Its team brings the capabilities necessary to accelerate cleanup at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Savannah River Site through safe nuclear operations, optimized and integrated mission execution, and strong corporate governance.

The University of South Carolina Aiken is a regional comprehensive university offering bachelor's and master’s degrees to approximately 4,000 students in more than 70 academic programs. Named a top Regional Comprehensive Public College in the South for more than decades, USC Aiken students arrive from 41 states and 25 countries.
