AIKEN, S.C. (July 7, 2025) — Savannah River Mission Completion (SRMC), the liquid waste contractor at the Savannah River Site, has once again been recognized with the Palmetto Shining Star Award, a reflection of its ongoing focus on safety culture in the workplace.

This safety award from the South Carolina Department of Labor, Licensing, and Regulation (LLR) is a way of acknowledging employers for the success in their safety and health programs.

The Palmetto Shining Star Award was given to SRMC for working one million or more safe hours in 2024 without lost-time injury/illness and for obtaining a 2024 incident rate at least 75% below the 2023 South Carolina average rate for that industry.

SRMC has claimed this award back-to-back, after also receiving the Palmetto Shining Star Award in 2024 for upholding these same standards.

SRMC’s Safety and Health Manager David Stavru said getting this award is a testament to how dedicated SRMC is to implementing safety in everything it does.

“Earning The Palmetto Shining Star Award shows not only the commitment and vigilance of SRMC as a company, but every employee as an individual taking safety seriously,” Stavru said. “Safety is the foundation of everything we do. We are honored to receive this recognition for the second year in a row.”

SRMC comprises parent company BWX Technologies, Inc. with partners Amentum and Fluor. Its team brings the capabilities necessary to accelerate cleanup at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Savannah River Site through safe nuclear operations, optimized and integrated mission execution, and strong corporate governance.
