AIKEN, S.C. (May 18, 2026) — The lead occupational nurse at Savannah River Mission Completion (SRMC) has been recognized as an American Association of Occupational Health Nurses (AAOHN) Fellow — the highest honor in the field of occupational health nursing.

SRMC Health Services Team Lead Susan Jordan, BSN, RN, COHN, FAAOHN, received the honor at the AAOHN Annual Conference in April.

SRMC, the liquid waste contractor for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Environmental Management (EM) at the Savannah River Site (SRS), is responsible for safely treating and disposing of the millions of gallons of legacy radioactive waste remaining in the underground tanks at SRS.

The AAOHN Fellow award, given to highly qualified occupational and health nurses across the country, aims to highlight “leaders who help to advance the skills, knowledge and abilities” of nurses in the field and promotes management and leadership skills.

Jordan was one of only five AAOHN Fellows named across the country in 2026 and is one of only two fellows in South Carolina.

“I am honored to have been named an AAOHN Fellow and to be recognized as a leader in my field,” Jordan said. “I don’t pursue recognition in my profession; I am driven by the opportunity to contribute my best toward protecting the health and safety of our SRMC team and promoting others in the field of Occupational Health Nursing. It is truly an honor to be a part of our SRMC family, an organization that supports, promotes, and models excellence in professional development.”

Wes Bryan, SRMC senior vice president, Environment, Safety, Health, and Quality, said Jordan and the SRMC Health Services team is second-to-none in their field.

“Susan Jordan and the entire team in the Health Services office are excellent, award-winning nurses and they provide a tremendous service for us at SRMC,” Bryan said. “Susan has shown excellent leadership for the Health Services team and is a fantastic asset for our entire workforce. She’s more than deserving of this recognition and much more.”

Jordan currently serves as the Lead of Health Services on the liquid waste contract and has held various nursing roles at SRS for nearly 10 years in a healthcare career that spans more than 30 years with stints in the U.S. Navy and various facilities in the Aiken and Augusta area.

The SRMC Health Services team provides health- and wellness-related services, including first-aid care for SRMC workers, management of work-related injuries, coordination of workers compensations claims to include off-site medical specialist referrals, liaisons for short-term disability benefits, and overall employee wellness programs.

SRMC comprises parent company BWX Technologies, Inc. with partners Amentum and Fluor. Its team brings the capabilities necessary to accelerate cleanup at DOE’s SRS through safe nuclear operations, optimized and integrated mission execution, and strong corporate governance.
