AIKEN, S.C. (August 8, 2022) – Savannah River Mission Completion (SRMC), the liquid waste contractor at the Savannah River Site, has graduated its first class of emerging leaders from its inaugural leadership forum.
Twenty-four early-career professionals were part of the first SRMC Leaders’ Forum. This group, identified by SRMC senior management as having high potential to be the next generation of leaders, included diverse individuals from a variety of areas: engineering, modeling, training, communications, talent acquisition, project management, mission excellence, accounting, and human resources. The event took place at the University of South Carolina Aiken from July 18-22.
The art of collaboration, strategic career planning, adaptive leadership, effective communication, and leading in a post-pandemic environment were just some of the competencies taught in the workshops. Teams also solved a practical exercise and provided a briefing to the SRMC executive team.
Emily Hamm, SRMC Compensation Analyst, said it was a pleasure to attend the inaugural Leaders’ Forum.
“Throughout the week, we heard from many speakers within the industry and participated in multiple leadership strengthening workshops,” Hamm said. “The skills and lessons acquired will be applied for many years to come in my career. It is a true blessing to work for a company that wants to invest in early-career professionals in the way that Savannah River Mission Completion does.”
SRMC President and Program Manager Dave Olson said he was impressed with the company’s first leadership cohort.
“It was a week of full immersion in all things leadership development for these high performers,” Olson said. “It is important for a company to be intentional in planning for future leadership, and I have high confidence that many of these individuals will rise through the ranks very quickly, hopefully at SRMC. If that’s the case, the future will be in good hands.”
The event also hosted guest speakers from the nuclear industry, including Mike Budney, DOE-Savannah River Manager; Jeff Allison, National Nuclear Security Administration Savannah River Field Office Deputy Manager; and Edwin DeShong, DOE-Savannah River Operations Office Chief Engineer.
