The annual SRMC Liquid Waste Golf Tournament drew 124 players to Houndslake Country Club in Aiken, S.C. for a fundraiser to benefit local United Way agencies.
AIKEN, S.C. (November 14, 2023) — Thirty-one foursomes teed it up for the annual Savannah River Mission Completion (SRMC) Liquid Waste Golf Tournament to benefit United Way agencies and added nearly $14,000 to the company’s fundraising total for its current campaign.
SRMC, the liquid waste contractor at Savannah River Site, conducts the popular event each year in support of numerous organizations across the region that receive financial aid from the United Way.
The event at the Houndslake Country Club in Aiken employed a Captain’s Choice format, as all four players hit their tee shot, select the best drive of the four, then each player hits their next shot from that location. A handicapping system was also used to help promote competition by leveling scores. Teams were awarded for total score gross (before handicapping), total score net (after handicapping), closest to the pin, longest drive, and a putting challenge. There was also a contest for designing the best sign that would be placed on tee boxes.
SRMC President and Program Manager Dave Olson said employees and guests always make a great showing for the annual event – rain or shine.
“We were fortunate to have such a great day for golf, and the players had a great time,” Olson said. “We should never forget, however, the importance of raising money to help our neighbors in need. I’m proud of the level of involvement of our workers—the tournament organizers, volunteers, and players—as well as their generous financial contributions to this cause. We appreciate the support of our tournament sponsors and the club for hosting this event.”
SRMC conducts an annual fundraising campaign that collects a generous total, most of which is distributed to the major United Way agencies in the Aiken, S.C. area.
This year’s winners:
Team gross total: Carl Smith, Silva Rosier, Ian Price, Kory Sanders
Team net total: Brian Amick, Patrick Cunning, Bradley Chapman, Josh Raines
Longest drive: Blue Sanderson
Closest to the pin: Ian Price, Patrick Stewart
Putting challenge: Alexander Caughman

Corporate sponsors for this year’s event were SRMC, DN Tanks, E2 Consulting, Waseyabek Federal Services, Augusta Industrial, and Pavarti.
SRMC comprises parent company BWX Technologies, Inc. with partners Amentum and Fluor. Its team brings the capabilities necessary to accelerate cleanup at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Savannah River Site through safe nuclear operations, optimized and integrated mission execution, and strong corporate governance.
