Savannah River Mission Completion Summer Intern Program Welcomes 47 Students

AIKEN, S.C. (June 10, 2026) — Students from across the country have joined Savannah River Mission Completion (SRMC) this summer to take part in its internship program.
Forty-seven college interns have joined SRMC, the liquid waste contractor at Savannah River Site (SRS), taking part in a multi-week program to advance their skills and knowledge in engineering, communications, construction, and many more roles.
This internship class hails from colleges across the country, including the Georgia Institute of Technology, University of Virginia, Florida State University, Clemson University, Georgia Southern University, University of Georgia, University of South Carolina, Presbyterian College, The Citadel, University of North Carolina-Charlotte, Valdosta State University, Purdue University, USC Upstate, Rose Hulman Institute of Technology, and the largest group from local colleges USCA and Augusta University in the program’s history.
Six students are returning for a second consecutive stint in the SRMC internship program, and two students are back for a third summer.
Allison Brinkley, the internship program lead for SRMC, called this year the most competitive application process in the program’s history.
“With more than 1,500 applicants competing for just 47 positions, this summer internship program represents an extraordinary opportunity for a select group of emerging talent,” Brinkley said. “We also have the largest contingent from local schools – USCA and Augusta University – which is an exciting opportunity to interact with the local students in our community.”
SRMC President and Program Manager Dr. Thomas Burns, Jr., believes the internship program represents a great opportunity for students to learn in a real-world environment.
“Students in our internship program are getting real, hands-on experience in a great environment at Savannah River Mission Completion,” Burns said. “We are taking the best and brightest students from across the country and giving them the chance to make an impact. That’s going to be an invaluable experience for them as they move through their college careers and beyond into the workforce.”
As part of the summer internship experience, students will participate in community service projects, networking with senior management, professional development training, facility tours, and social outings after hours.
SRMC comprises parent company BWX Technologies, Inc. with partners Amentum and Fluor. Its team brings the capabilities necessary to accelerate cleanup at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Savannah River Site through safe nuclear operations, optimized and integrated mission execution, and strong corporate governance.
