AIKEN, S.C. (May 29, 2025) — Savannah River Mission Completion (SRMC) has been recognized by the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) strategic sourcing program for contributing $38 million of a $2 billion total cost-savings over three years.

The Supply Chain Management Center (SCMC) recently passed a significant milestone, achieving more than $2 billion in savings by National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) and DOE Environmental Management (EM) prime contractors across the country. SCMC is a strategic supply chain program dedicated to simplifying the buying process to enable savings for NNSA and DOE EM prime contractors.
SCMC helps sites stretch budgets and taxpayer dollars. Savings generated through SCMC agreements and tools can be reinvested into additional site priorities, achieving more mission with existing resources.
SRMC has been contributing to this to SCMC-enabled savings milestone since subcontracting efforts began at the start of the SRMC contract three years ago. The savings come in the form of extensive SCMC agreements, catalog utilization to streamline the purchasing process, reverse auction tools, and negotiated savings strategies. SRMC personnel actively contribute to the SCMC by serving in roles and on committees that support supply chain initiatives for SCMC and the DOE complex, such as an Information Technology working group and small business subcommittee.
The SCMC is an important part of SRMC’s business strategy, according to SRMC Chief Administration Officer Bret Evans.
“This incredible cost-savings achievement speaks to the deep commitment SRMC and the DOE have in being good stewards of taxpayer dollars while executing the radioactive waste cleanup mission,” Evans said. “I’m proud of the contribution our team has made to this savings milestone.”
SCMC has been transforming the approach to enterprise supply chain efficiency since 2006. The program works collaboratively with prime contractors to offer purchasing agreements and digital procurement tools that can be used by multiple sites across the DOE. This saves time by reducing duplication of effort and enabling buyers to focus on site-specific needs. By leveraging a combined $7 billion in annual spending, SCMC can negotiate prices, which saves money. SCMC regularly works with more than 26 NNSA and DOE EM sites across the country.
“Collaboration is key. This achievement is proof of what happens when prime contractors work together for the benefit of the enterprise,” said Scott Bissen, SCMC Senior Director.
SRMC is the Liquid Waste contractor at SRS. SRMC comprises parent company BWX Technologies, Inc. with partners Amentum and Fluor. Its team brings the capabilities necessary to accelerate cleanup at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Savannah River Site through safe nuclear operations, optimized and integrated mission execution, and strong corporate governance.
