Savannah River Mission Completion Employees Serve Good Cause in CSRA Heart Walk

AIKEN, S.C. (April 15, 2024) — Savannah River Mission Completion (SRMC) employees laced up their walking shoes and took steps, literally, to raise approximately $35,000 for the 2024 SRMC Heart Walk Campaign in support of the American Heart Association.

Savannah River Mission Completion demonstrated its continued community support for the American Heart Association through the 2024 CSRA Heart Walk. SRMC’s team included: back row, from left: Hagen Weinheimer, Jamil Bey, Jamie Williams, and Michael Girosky. Front row, from left: James Thacker, Cortney Rudder, Sarah Bauske, Bradley Williams, Casey Williams, TeShania Bey, and Joel Cantrell.

The SRMC team gathered at SRP Park in North Augusta, S.C., on March 22 for the symbolic end to this year’s American Heart Association fundraiser, generating contributions for the CSRA Heart Walk through numerous events.

SRMC is the Liquid Waste contractor at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Savannah River Site.

According to Joel Cantrell, SRMC Director of Environment, Safety, Health, and Quality and 2024 CSRA Heart Walk Co-Chair, this event gives employees the opportunity to emphasize both heart health and community giving.

“Time and again, our workforce has proven to be caring and generous,” Cantrell said. “By giving of their time, their talent, and their treasure, they regularly demonstrate their involvement in our communities and their desire to help fight disabling health conditions.”

Tank Farm Salt/Sludge Engineering Manager Sarah Bauske was this year’s SRMC Heart Walk Campaign Chairperson. She said this event gives employees a chance to support the health of surrounding communities.

"Caring for your heart is one of the most important things you can do to live a healthier life,” Bauske said. “Each year, our employees demonstrate their concern for heart health by supporting the Heart Walk as they are able – through contributions and getting together for a heart-healthy walk.”

Approximately 50 SRMC employees turned out for the walk at SRP Park in North Augusta, S.C. All funds raised by SRMC employees in the annual Heart Walk go to the American Heart Association to support research to save lives.

SRMC comprises parent company BWX Technologies, Inc. with partners Amentum and Fluor. Its team brings the capabilities necessary to accelerate cleanup at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Savannah River Site through safe nuclear operations, optimized and integrated mission execution, and strong corporate governance.
