AIKEN, S.C. (April 20, 2026) — A group of volunteers from Savannah River Mission Completion (SRMC) brought community service to life during the United Way of Aiken County’s Project VISION Day of Caring.

The Project VISION — or Volunteers In Service In Our Neighborhoods — Day of Caring was held on March 20, 2026, where hundreds of volunteers fanned out across the county to lend helping hands during this annual day of service.
More than 50 volunteers from SRMC, the Savannah River Site’s liquid waste contractor, rolled up their sleeves to complete renovations, refurbishment, and repairs for three local United Way agencies: the Cumbee Center, Children’s Place, and the Aiken County United Way office. In addition, a team of SRMC volunteers re-built a porch that had been damaged during Helene, leaving the homeowner unable to exit the front door.
Volunteer coordinator for SRMC, Bobbi Stavru, said that Project VISION is an opportunity for SRMC employees to turn compassion into action.
“Volunteering gives our team the opportunity to work toward a brighter future outside of the workplace,” said Stavru, executive admin/coordinator for SRMC Projects and Construction Services. “We have the privilege of contributing to meaningful changes, and that is what inspires us to show up and work hard every year.”
SRMC President and Program Manager Dr. Thomas Burns, Jr. said that teamwork is what makes efforts like Project VISION successful.
“The SRMC team embodies a spirit of excellence both in the workplace and in serving the community,” Burns said. “I’m proud to see SRMC employees living up to these standards by giving their time and talents to support our community.”
SRMC comprises parent company BWX Technologies, Inc. with partners Amentum and Fluor. Its team brings the capabilities necessary to accelerate cleanup at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Savannah River Site through safe nuclear operations, optimized and integrated mission execution, and strong corporate governance.
